CURRICULUM N A V I G A T I O N	2nd GRADE CURRICULUM
	LANGUAGE ARTS ACSI / Abeka Books / Plato Learning, Inc. Second graders who experience this language arts curriculum will learn how to read, write, spell, speak, and listen more proficiently. Students will acquire strategies helpful to understanding, responding, and accessing information in the important areas of literacy. They will enjoy reading a variety of literature selections, writing for a variety of purposes, and building upon foundational phonic skills. There is an emphasis on sound-letter relationships, visual memory, and word meaning to expand the student's spelling and vocabulary ability. Second grade also involves the introduction of cursive writing during the second quarter. The language arts curriculum mirrors the requirements as set forth by the State of California Standards department. NPLA accepts these standards as minimum competencies and expect our students to not only meet but exceed the state standards across each discipline.
