CURRICULUM N A V I G A T I O N	2nd GRADE CURRICULUM
	SCIENCE ACSI / Abeka Books / Plato Learning, Inc. Students continue to build upon scientific concepts introduced in first grade: patterns of change, form and function, systems and interactions, and energy. Second graders have the opportunity to study scientific concepts and develop their investigative skills through several modular themes: the city, the woods, a lake, a campsite, and a playground. The science curriculum mirrors the requirements as set forth by the State of California Standards department. NPLA accepts these standards as minimum competencies and expect our students to not only meet but exceed the state standards across each discipline.
	Science units:
	LIFE SCIENCE - Animals: protection, food, habitat - Plants: protection, food, seeds, habitat - Eggs - Frogs PHYSICAL SCIENCE - Light: sources, shadows, reflections, vision, safety - Sound: vibrations, pitch, loudness, hearing, safety - Water: bodies of water, salt/fresh, cycle, use, pollution, conservation EARTH SCIENCE - Sun: stars, heat, light, size of sun - Earth: day, night, shadows - Moon: features, phases, location HEALTH - Body Organs: heart, lung, brain, stomach - Effects of exercise and nutrition on the body
