CURRICULUM N A V I G A T I O N	2nd GRADE CURRICULUM
	SOCIAL STUDIES ACSI / Abeka Books / Plato Learning, Inc. The Social Studies curriculum in second grade emphasizes community life in past, present, and around our world. Basic geography skills are introduced with special attention given to map terminology and skills. United States holidays, famous Americans, and the importance of family, church, school, and community are highlighted. Students will study the first Americans, the Pilgrims and settler life. Biblical principles concerning relationships and attitudes towards others are emphasized. The Social Studies curriculum mirrors the requirements as set forth by the State of California Standards department. NPLA accepts these standards as minimum competencies and expect our students to not only meet but exceed the state standards across each discipline.

	- Family unit - Other nationalities - Role of a good citizen - Five themes of geography: - Formation and reasons for rules and laws - Introduction to community and state government - Introduction to the globe, maps, terminology - Appreciation for life in other cultures - Ways to make our community a better place - Australia - Polar Regions
