on the basis of race, color, gender, national and
ethnic origin, or religion for purposes of admission.

2. Parent or guardian and student
read the handbook thoroughly.
3. Application is submitted accompanied
by registration and application fees.

7. Blue or pink immunization
forms must be received before a student may enroll
in school. (All students must have immunizations for
diphtheria, polio,
measles, and rubella.)
Health/Immunization Requirements
All children entering kindergarten are required by
law to have the
following immunizations:
• Poliomyelitis vaccine (TOPV or IPV)
•
Diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and pertussis vaccine
(DTP-DPT)
•
Measles (Rubeola) vaccine, Rubella vaccine, Mumps
vaccine (MMR)
•
Hepatitis B
•
Varicella (Chicken Pox)
A copy of students yellow “Immunization Report
Card” or other shot
records which verify the dates of each immunization
or a signed
wavier must be submitted to the school prior to school
entry.
It is mandatory for all students entering school to
receive a Mantoux
tuberculosis TB skin test. The tine tests are not
acceptable with
the State Department of Health. The physician must
read the test
in seventy-two (72) hours. Documentation that the
test has been
given with a negative result must be submitted to
the school prior
to school entry.
All children entering first grade in a public or private
school are required
by law to provide documentation of a health checkup
(Certification
of Examination for Entry into Grade One) or a signed
waiver.
Forms are provided by your doctor or local health
department.
Students
entering seventh grade must have completed a three-
dose
hepatitis B vaccine series, administered over four
to six months.
Sixth grade students should begin immunizations as
soon as
possible to ensure completion of the three-dose hepatitis
B before
seventh grade.
The
principal is directed by state law to send students
home that have
not completed the above requirements.
Student
attendance records are maintained and medical records
are
updated along with records of transfer/incoming students’
immunizations.
Located in each first grade student’s cumulative
file is documentation
of a health checkup, i.e., certification of examination
for entry into first grade or a signed waiver. The
health
examination is conducted within 18 months prior to
entrance to first grade.
Each year by January15, NPLA files a report with the
Fresno County
Child Health and Disability Prevention Program, the
State Department
of Health Services, and the Department of Education
including
the following information:
1. The total number of children enrolled in first
grade.
2.
The number of children who have had a health screening
examination.
3.
The number of children whose parents or guardian have
given written
notice that they do not want their child to receive
a health
screening examination.
8. Class Size
In the primary
grades (K-3) we maintain an average class size of
25. In the event
that any class exceeds 27 students, supplemental staffing
must be implemented
to serve students’ needs until such time as
enrollment
warrants opening additional classes.
In
the intermediate grades (4-6), we maintain an average
class size of 30. In
the event that any class exceeds 32 students, supplemental
staffing must
be implemented to serve students’ needs until
such time as enrollment
warrants opening additional classes.
9. Kindergarten and First
Grade
The
Developmental Readiness Scale is administered to all
new applicants. The
results are reviewed by the teacher who administered
the Scale, a kindergarten
or first grade teacher, and the principal.
If the child
in question has shown overall readiness at the 5-year-old
level
(for kindergarten) or 6-year-old level (for first
grade), the child is accepted.
If the child
shows slight delays in some areas of development,
we investigate
the child's readiness history by questioning adults
close to the child
(teachers, parents, etc.). Based on this investigation
and the Scale results
the administration makes recommendations regarding
grade placement.
If the child
being evaluated shows marked developmental delays
in several
areas, the principal, after consulting with the teachers
and other educational
specialists, will determine whether the child's needs
can be met
at NorthPointe Leadership Academy.
10. 2nd – 6th grade
A reading placement test and a math survey are administered
to all students applying for admission. If a student's
scores indicate
likely success at the grade level they are entering,
the child is accepted
without qualification. If a student's scores indicate
that instructional
level is six months to one year below the grade level
being entered,
progress is tracked by the principal for one or two
semesters. In
the event that the student fails to make adequate
instructional gains during
that period, remedial help will be strongly encouraged,
or even required,
as a condition of enrollment the following year.
If
a student's scores indicate that instructional level
is more than one year
below the grade applied to enter, the principal will
investigate the child's
past performance in school. This will involve interviewing
parents and
former teachers, and reviewing school records (report
cards, test scores,
etc.). If this research confirms that the child is
performing at a very
remedial level, the child will most likely not be
admitted.
B. Acceptance
1.
Parents will be notified concerning the outcome of
the enrollment process
when the above procedure has been completed. Students
may be
placed on a waiting list, depending on space availability.
For all grades,
a student’s position on the waiting list depends
on the date of application
and priority status.
C. Specific Rules

the misconduct occurred on or off the school campus,
whether the form of misconduct is identified specifically

and may result in administration of discipline, including

or careless defacing, damaging, or destroying of school
property will result in both appropriate disciplinary

student and/or his or her parents or legal guardian.
4. Conduct and attitude shall be respectful. Disruptions
in class, unruly behavior, or repeated violations
of prescribed school policy will not be allowed.

all times, in and out of school. Any student who is
disrespectful to a staff member(s) will be subject
to disciplinary action, which may include suspension
or expulsion.
